Basic research and development of Ti (C, n) - based Cermet
Release time:2020-08-21 17:09:27
Tic Ni cermet first appeared in 1929, as an alternative material of WC Co alloy, it is mainly used for cutting. Ti (C, n) - based cermets were invented in 1931. In 1956, U.S. Ford Motor Company humenik found that adding Mo to tic Ni based cermet can improve the wettability of Ni to tic and greatly improve the alloy strength]. Kiefer found in 1971 that the introduction of n into tic Ni based cermet and the addition of MOC and Mo powder at the same time can make it obtain higher hardness, wear resistance, bending strength, better cutting performance and oxidation resistance. Since then, more and more researches on Ti (C, n) - based cermets have been carried out. Therefore, great attention has been paid to Ti (C, n) - based Cermets at home and abroad. Since the 1980s, Ti (C, n) - based ceramics have developed rapidly. Cemented carbide factories around the world have successively launched a series of Ti (C, n) - based ceramic cutting tools.
Over the past 30 years, with the development of powder metallurgy technology, the evolution of composition tends to be stable, the continuous renewal of sintering technology, the continuous refinement of powder particle size, the continuous improvement of mechanical properties of Ti (C, n) - based cermets, and the development of Ti (C, n) - based cermets to a more mature stage. In Japan, Ti (C, n) - based ceramic tool materials account for 30% of indexable inserts. During the "Eighth Five Year Plan" period, China has also developed a variety of Ti (C, n) - based ceramic cutting tools, which are listed in batches, but the performance is not stable.
As a new tool material, Ti (C, n) - based cermet has the advantages of low density, better hardness at room temperature and high temperature than WC based cemented carbide, good chemical stability, oxidation resistance and wear resistance. Its application fills in the blank of high speed finish machining and semi finish machining between WC carbide and ceramic cutting tools. It is not only suitable for high speed finish machining, but also suitable for semi finish machining and intermittent machining. Moreover, it has high cutting speed, good surface quality and long tool life. Ti (C, n) - based cermets can also be made into indexable inserts, which can be used in the fields of fine boring, fine hole processing and turning instead of grinding.
